The washes quickly fill and the floodwaters rush to the main body of the Colorado River -- more than 1500 feet below but only 10 miles of twisting canyon along this wash in the Needles District. In as little as 1 hour after a rain, the wash contains water in only a few pools and the stream has stopped running.
