These storage bins are hidden under overhanging rock ledges, possibly to protect the contents from the sun and probably to guard the food stores from non-farming nomadic groups that travelled in the same area. After hiking in the Lost Canyon area of Needles for many years, I did not come upon these small bins until recently. Were I to draw a map showing the location of the canyon they are in, searchers might spend many days before finding them.
