Willmore Wilderness Park Hiking Trips
Hiking Trips in Willmore Wilderness Park: Summer 2008 Willmore Wildeness Park, nominated as a World Heritage site and known for its empty spaces and scenic vistas, is my favorite place in the Canadian Rockies to hike and take photographs. The outfitters and pack train carry our gear in the valley bottoms, while we hike in places like the one where the couple in the photo above are enjoying. The camps are set up to provide scenic vistas while also providing shelter in case of inclement weather. Hikers use their own tents and sleeping gear which are carried along with personal gear and food by the horses, allowing the hikers to enjoy themselves without heavy loads on their backs. These hikes are for the avergae person--they are not hiking marathons. The aim is to enjoy the wildflowers and scenery. Trip Dates: 1. Wildflowers of Willmore. Late June/Early. 7 days. Either June 21-27 or June 28-July 4 or both. The wilderflowers are at their peak in late June and early July. We stay at a base camp in the Scenic Eagle's Nest Pass region and do five day hikes. The other two days consist of the hike in and back to the trailhead. Costs vary according to preferences for having the outfitter supply the food and prepare the meals. 2. Heart of Willmore: July 17-26. This 10-day trip will visit two of Willmore's most striking areas: The Persimmon Basin and Jackknife Pass. The routes from camp 1 to camps 2 and 3 are off trail and spectacularly wild. There will be 2-4 days of hiking in both regions. The remaining days will be in and out to the trailhead. Cost, $140/day. 3. A Taste of Willmore: July 28-31 [more days might be added]. This 4-day trip provides an orientation to Willmore for people who are not ready for or do not have time for a longer trip this year. It will consist of 2 of my favourite hikes in the Eagle's Nest Pass region. The other two days are moving in and out from and to the trailhead. Cost $140/day.
