There are a number of camps in this broad valley, most of which have access to water. The range in the back is the Persimmon Range. All camps are on a first-come, first-served basis. One camp is in the spruce trees to the hiker's left. Another is across the meadow to the right in that stand of Spruce. In general, only one or two of the camps in this region are occupied in the months of June, July and August up until hunting season starts around August 20. At that time, all the camps fill with hunters. It's legal to collect firewood in the park and to take down dead standing trees. It's not legal to cut live trees. Most trees on the ground will produce adequate firewood for a campfire, but not for a wood burning stove. Hikers with a hand saw would have no trouble finding wood. |
