On our trips you can expect to see bighorn sheep, mountain goats, and on occasion, mountain caribou. However, in the Fall there is hunting in Willmore and these animals tend to be wary of humans. So, they will avoid encounters when they see a group of riders coming. And, we take great care not to disturb the wildlife. People do worry about wolves and bears. The grizzlys in Willmore are not accommodated to people as they are in the highly visited mountain parks like Waterton-Glacier, Banff, Jasper and Yellowstone. There have been no recorded bear attacks in Willmore and with the horses grazing nearby, bears stay away from our camps. Wolves in the wild are quite shy—if we're lucky, we sometimes hear that most beautiful of all sounds, a wolf howling at the moon. |
