Deadwood : Needles District, Canyonlands National Park, Utah, USA
I came across this tree (may I call it that?) while hiking in the arid canyon country of southern Utah. Plants and trees in this desert-like regime have very little soil through which to find nutrients and water. The sandstone monument beyond has been weathering for thousands of years. It and the wood are resting on a hardened ancient sea bed. The wood would be lovely in any setting, but when coupled with its ancient partner, I felt it was particularly beautiful. |
