By some estimates orchids are the largest family of the world's flowers. Yet, in Alberta, because of their small size and because they typically are not 'showy', they are rarely seen.
Because Alberta's orchids are relatively unknown and because of our love for Alberta's wild places, we thought that this webpage would make a nice gift for those who want to know more about Alberta's natural history.
The Orchids of Alberta, Canada Webpage is a joint product of Bruce and Donna Wakeford and Ray Rasmussen.
Bruce, the photographer, and Donna, The botanical advisor, love to spend their days wandering Alberta Special Places in search of wildflowers.
To photograph orchids, Bruce spends a good deal of time on his elbows with his camera mounted on a tripod that is about 15 inches high photographing orchids that range from 3 to 20 inches in height.
Ray is a web designer who designs web pages that have a focus on conservation and on the appreciation of wild places and species. If you are an Albertan, you may wish to visit his Wildflowers of Edmonton and Wildflowers of the Rockies Webpages.
