About This
Site
This
webpage displays landscape photographs and haiku poems written by some of the
Japanese haiku masters and by contemporary haiku poets.
Haiku
is a classic Japanese poetry form that uses 17 syllables in three lines. Traditionally,
nature is the topic, the focus is "now" or "the haiku moment"
and a special thought or insight is provided. There is more information on the
haiku form on the links page.
Taking
photographs and writing haikus are meditative experiences. Both force a focusing
on the subject, on what is present in nature. Both reach for a statement that
might not normally be made.
The
photographs on this webpage were mainly taken by Ray Rasmussen and Fred Vermeulen
in the Fall of 2000
near our homeplace, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
However, as noted, some other photographers have kindly contributed their images.
All
comtemporary haiku poems appear with the author's permission and are subject to
copyright protection. All photographs are covered by copyright provisions described
on the "copyright link".
Large
prints or jpeg files of the images, with or without the haikus printed on them,
are available.
See the copyright
link for details.
