pressed between pages
keepsakes of an autumn
almost gone

I love all the seasons, but for some reason fall and winter seem to be my favorites. Maybe it’s because I was born in between them. It’s hard catching peeks at autumn when you live in southern Florida. Sometimes I’m able to catch a glimpse – other times it eludes me. Autumn is shades of reds, yellows and browns floating in the air – eventually making a patch work quilt over the ground. It's the briskness in the air and the crunching of leaves under your feet; watching the animals scurrying to prepare for winter; the beginnings of wisps of smoke coming from chimneys; geese flying south in formation; children laughing and rolling in leaves; pumpkins on vines and dried cornstalks looking like teepees in barren fields. I find I can still be a kid and enjoy the leaves, throwing them up in the air – pressing the colors in books and shuffling my feet through them, listening to the sound. This photograph is an autumn scene in Ohio.
