Catching a Sunset

Thunderstorms, though frequent during summer months in Florida, generally pass over quickly. I’m always fascinated at how it can be pouring a few houses away yet remain totally dry where I’m standing. The storm today lingered, but finally passed.

Several friends, my daughter, grandson (Codi) and I decide to chance catching a sunset at the beach. Many times when a storm lingers – then finally passes – it’s “iffy” trying to see a sunset, as the storm clouds tend to remain, hugging the Gulf waters, horizon and surrounding areas. Luckily I live fairly close to the beach (3-4 miles), so the drive doesn’t take long to check it out. Codi has decided to try fishing and grabs his gear. We stop for shrimp, which he will use for bait.

Getting to the beach we’re still unsure if we’ll see a sunset. Although the sky is clear overhead, we’re surrounded by clouds. The sand is wet, but we put towels down anyway to take a little of the dampness away. The water is still fairly warm despite the rain. A friend of my daughters’ goes in the water with Codi, to oversee what he’s doing and to offer advice. As the sun begins to set we are rewarded with this spectacular sunset. The picture I take catches Codi stretching as he casts his fishing line out, which makes it look as if he’s pulling the clouds and sun down with his baited line.
