Yucca Yucca leaves were the primary source of material for Anasazi sandals. Weavers used them whole, split, separated or broken down for spinning. When used in leaf form elements were predominantly left unspun, but sometimes were twisted. On the sandals shown in this catalog, the cortex (outer layer) of the leaf is usually intact unless the material was separated, in which case decortication (removal of the outer layer) might occur naturally.
