Wooden Shoe Just on the other side of the wooden shoe formation, there are several ruins located in high alcoves in the caprock. It has been suggested that during the drought in 1200 AD, the Anasazi first moved their dwellings and storage bins to the high walls for security from nomads. The entire area was abandoned some time during that century.
