ACT Psychology: Compassionate, Creative Caring
ACT Psychology is owned and operated by Kenneth Duncan, Registered Psychologist (AB). He holds a Bachelor of Science and Arts Degree in Psychology, a Professional Development Diploma in Education from Simon Fraser University, and a Master’s of Education Degree in Counselling Psychology from the University of British Columbia. He has practiced counselling psychology for over 20 years in a variety of professional settings—schools, university, mental health, addiction recovery and in national employee/family assistance programs. A career-long dedication to professional development as an educator and psychologist has equipped him to assist individuals, couples, parents, children and adolescents with compassionate, creative caring that results in personal growth and effective change. The services he provides range from counselling to psychotherapy. Counselling is an approach to creating change in a person’s life related to issues that have been of a short-term and non-traumatic nature—e.g. problem solving, communication, and re-assurance. Counselling sessions are usually less than 12 in number for a specific issue. Psychotherapy involves a longer time commitment and explores the unconscious sources of suffering in a person’s life. Counselling and psychotherapy are opportunities for resolving problems people encounter in their occupational and personal relationships as well as within themselves that interfere with their experience of a joyful, fulfilling, and meaningful life. The Tibetan Buddhist teacher, Chogyam Trungpa, wrote that— The basic task of helping professionals in general, and psychotherapists in particular, is to become full human beings, and to inspire full human-beingness in other people who feel starved about their lives. Joseph Campbell, world-renowned mythologist, states in The Power of Myth that People say that what we’re all seeking is a meaning for life. I don’t think that’s what we’re really seeking. I think that what we’re seeking is an experience of being alive, so that our life experiences on the purely physical plane will have resonances within our own innermost being and reality, so that we actually feel the rapture of being alive. Approach Kenneth Duncan’s approach to therapy is informed by his own personal healing path of practicing meditation, yoga, transpersonal psychology, Hakomi, and Jungian therapy. He is an Advanced Hakomi Practitioner. Treatment Services
