Haiku Poetry
Section Chris asked me to host this haiku part of the Stone Lantern Bulletin. From his new home in BC, he sent an email to some of his friends about his loneliness and his disdain for electronic communication which he feels forced to use as his now only means of communication. I was touched by his lament that he missed Whyte Avenue, the cup of coffee shared with a face across the table. I wrote the following haiku in response to his comments:
Can we make the Stone Lantern Bulletin work as a shared experience in various forms, including haiku? We're in the process of finding out. Just as I've written a context for the above haiku, I invite those who would like to submit haiku poetry to the Stone Lantern Journal to submit both the haiku and some background information about the scene that prompted the haiku and/or feelings about the haiku writing process. Please consider contributing your haiku poems in one or more ways: I've included some haiku links below containing examples and discussions of the haiku form. There are a number of "rules" for writing haiku poems in English. The 5-7-5 structure has been subject to much debate which is explored in some of Jane Reichhold's Haiku Webpages. I've added a link containing the rules that I've decided to use in my approach to the form. Whatever you do, please consider submitting your haiku poems. |
